Below is information about focus on the Doula Benefit
What is a doula? A doula is a trained professional who offers non-medical support and care to women and their partners during the childbirth process, as well as providing assistance during the postpartum period, which is the time following delivery. The role of a doula is to provide emotional, physical, and informational support, helping to create a positive birth experience. Doulas do not deliver babies or provide medical care; instead, they focus on the needs and preferences of the mother, offering comfort measures, encouragement, and guidance throughout labor and recovery.
What are the criteria for using the benefit? To qualify for the Doula Benefit, there are three essential criteria that must be fulfilled. First, your gynecologist must be listed among Momentum Medical Scheme’s Associated Specialists, ensuring that your care is coordinated with recognized professionals within the network. Second, you must be planning to have a natural birth, which aligns with the type of support that doulas provide. Finally, it is crucial that the doula you choose has a valid practice number, indicating that they are accredited by recognized organizations such as DOSA or WOMBS. Meeting these criteria ensures that you receive the appropriate support and benefits during this important time in your life.
What are the benefits? Members of the Momentum Medical Scheme who are enrolled in the Evolve, Custom, Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options can take advantage of several valuable benefits related to doula services. Specifically, you are entitled to one pre-delivery antenatal consultation, which is valued at R2,180 for those on the Evolve and Custom Options, and R2,280 for members on the Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options. To ensure proper billing, it is recommended that you ask your doula to use tariff code 966072 for this consultation. Additionally, you are also eligible for one post-delivery consultation, with the same values as the pre-delivery consultation. For this visit, you should request that your doula use tariff code 966073 to facilitate the billing process. These consultations are designed to provide you with the necessary support and information during both the prenatal and postpartum phases of your journey.
Please note that the Doula Benefit will be activated once you register for the Maternity Management Programme. It is important to complete this step to ensure that you can access the full range of benefits available to you.
