The comprehensive maternity program offered by Momentum Medical Scheme is designed to provide members with the essential support and high-quality care they require during their pregnancy and in the postpartum period. This focused approach to care includes various benefits such as antenatal visits, ultrasound scans, nurse home visits, pediatric consultations, and immunizations for babies. The program aims to ensure that expectant mothers have access to the resources and assistance they need at every stage of their journey into motherhood.

How to RegisterYou can register for the maternity program starting from the eighth week of your pregnancy. There are several convenient methods to do this:

• You can use the Momentum App to register.
• Alternatively, you can log onto momentummedicalscheme.co.za to complete your registration online.
• Lastly, you can also reach out to us by sending a WhatsApp message or by calling our helpline at 0860 11 78 59.

When you register, it is important to provide us with specific information to ensure a smooth enrollment process. This includes:

• Your email address, which will be used for communication purposes.
• The name, surname, and practice number of your healthcare provider, which may include your general practitioner (GP), gynecologist, registered midwife, or doula.
• A detailed medical and surgical history, including any obstetric history that may be relevant.
• Your expected date of delivery, which helps us plan your care effectively.

Understanding the Maternity Program and BenefitsMomentum Medical Scheme has formed a partnership with BabyYumYum, South Africa’s premier parenting portal, to provide extensive pre- and post-natal support to new parents enrolled in the Momentum Medical Scheme. When you contact us to register for the maternity benefit, we will request your consent to join the MyMomentum BabyYumYum program. BabyYumYum will then send you a welcome message containing valuable information on how to fully utilize your benefits.

The maternity program includes a variety of benefits that may vary based on your chosen benefit option:

Benefits Offered in Partnership with Momentum Wellness and BabyYumYum

• Gain access to up-to-date and reliable information on all aspects of parenthood through the exclusive and personalized MyMomentum BabyYumYum portal, which serves as a valuable resource for new parents.
• Receive support from a qualified Momentum Wellness midwife who will visit your home to assist with essential tasks such as bathing, swaddling, latching, and feeding your newborn. All members are entitled to one home visit from a nurse on the day following your return from the hospital after childbirth. If you are enrolled in the Evolve or Custom Option, you will have an additional nurse visit two weeks later. Members on the Incentive, Extender, or Summit Option will benefit from a third visit six weeks after childbirth.
• Enjoy the convenience of having your baby’s vaccinations administered in the comfort of your home by a Momentum Wellness nurse, up to six weeks after birth, in accordance with the Department of Health's vaccination schedule, depending on your benefit option.
• If you are on the Incentive, Extender, or Summit Option, you will receive a stylish designer nappy bag filled with essential items for both mother and baby.
• Additionally, you will receive a voucher for a family meal delivery on your first night home, allowing you to focus on settling in and spending quality time with your family if you are on the Incentive, Extender, or Summit Option.

Antenatal VisitsFor those on the Ingwe Option, coverage includes up to seven antenatal visits, which may take place with your gynecologist, GP, or a registered midwife. This also includes urine dipstick tests (tariff code 4188) during these visits. Members on the Ingwe Network GP have unlimited visits to their GP.

For members enrolled in the Evolve, Custom, Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options, coverage extends to up to 12 antenatal visits, along with urine dipstick tests at your choice of GP, gynecologist, or registered midwife.

ScansAll options provide coverage for two pregnancy scans. If you are enrolled in the Evolve, Custom, Incentive, Extender, or Summit Option, your doctor can utilize tariff codes 3615 and 3617, allowing you access to a 3D or 4D scan at the same rate as a 2D scan.

Pathology TestsMembers on the Ingwe Option are covered for specific routine pathology tests that may be necessary during pregnancy. These tests include:

• Blood group (Tariff code: 3764)
• Full blood count (FBC) (Tariff code: 3755)
• Hemoglobin estimation (Tariff code: 3762)
• Rhesus factor (Tariff code: 3765)

Each of these tests is covered once per pregnancy.

For urine tests, including microscopic examinations (Tariff code: 3867), antibiotic susceptibility (Tariff code: 3887), and cultures (Tariff code: 3893), these are covered as long as they are requested by your treating doctor.

Members on the Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options also have coverage for additional routine pathology tests that may be needed during pregnancy, which include:

• Antiglobin (Tariff code: 3709)
• Blood group (Tariff code: 3764)
• Creatinine (Tariff code: 4032)
• Full blood count (Tariff code: 3755)
• Platelet count (Tariff code: 3797)
• Rhesus factor (Tariff code: 3765)
• Rubella antibody (Tariff code: 3948)

Each of these tests is covered once per pregnancy. Additionally, glucose strip tests (Tariff code: 4050) and hemoglobin estimations (Tariff code: 3762) are covered twice per pregnancy. Urinalysis (Tariff code: 4188) is covered for up to 12 tests per pregnancy, while urine tests, including microscopic exams, antibiotic susceptibility, and cultures, are covered if requested by your treating doctor.

Maternity CoachesMembers have access to maternity coaches trained in midwifery, who can provide telephonic support regarding pregnancy-related inquiries, confinement, postnatal care, and newborn issues. For those experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, your maternity coach will maintain regular contact to offer guidance, support, and encouragement throughout your journey.

Doula BenefitFor members on the Evolve, Custom, Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options, you are entitled to two doula visits during your pregnancy, provided that you utilize a DOSA or WOMBS accredited doula, your gynecologist is an Associated Specialist, and you are planning a natural birth. It is necessary to authorize the doula benefit as part of your maternity benefit registration.

Audiology, Circumcision, and PhysiotherapyIt is important to note that audiology services, circumcision, and physiotherapy are not routinely covered under the maternity program, even if these services are performed in a hospital setting. These services would be billed to your Day-to-Day benefits or HealthSaver+, if available. However, circumcision for medical reasons may be covered when prior authorization is obtained.

Baby ImmunizationsBaby immunizations, in line with the Department of Health's schedule, are covered for children up to the age of six years. For those on the Ingwe Option, immunizations are covered at private facilities during the baby’s first year, with a total coverage limit of R2,800. Once this limit is reached, immunizations can be accessed at Department of Health baby clinics. Paediatrician VisitsMembers on the Ingwe Option are entitled to one pediatrician visit within their baby's first year. In contrast, members on the Evolve, Custom, Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options are covered for two pediatrician visits in their baby's first year.

BellyBabies BenefitBellyBabies is an innovative offering that provides expectant parents with expert antenatal and postnatal support. This program includes access to an online antenatal course featuring 50 educational videos that can be watched from the comfort of home, as well as opportunities for video consultations with a lactation specialist, designed to assist you and your baby in establishing and maintaining a successful breastfeeding routine. To access these benefits, simply log onto bellybabies.co.za. Members of the Momentum Medical Scheme are eligible for a discount on BellyBabies services, and if you have a HealthSaver+ account, you can use available funds to pay for the service.

Members on the Incentive, Extender, and Summit Options have coverage for specific tariff codes related to these services:

Associated SpecialistsWelcoming a new baby often comes with additional financial responsibilities for families. To help alleviate some of these costs, Momentum Medical Scheme has established contracts with Associated Specialists, including gynecologists, pediatricians, and anesthetists. These specialists charge rates that have been negotiated by the Scheme, ensuring that you will not face rate shortfalls on in-hospital specialist accounts. To find specialists in your area, you can log onto the Momentum App or visit momentummedicalscheme.co.za, or consult with your maternity coach for assistance.

Authorization for Your ConfinementTo obtain pre-authorization for your confinement, please email us at [e-mail], send us a WhatsApp message, or call us at 0860 11 78 59. It is essential to secure this authorization within 30 days of your expected delivery date. If there are any changes to your hospital admission date, please inform us within 48 hours of your admission.

Adding Your Baby to Your Momentum Medical Scheme MembershipIt is important to note that your baby will not be automatically added to your Momentum Medical Scheme membership. If you wish for your baby to be covered under the Scheme and to access benefits such as baby immunizations and pediatrician visits, you must complete a newborn registration form. If you register your baby within 30 days of birth, the remainder of the first month’s contribution will be waived, provided that the application form is approved by your employer if your contributions are employer-paid.
